How to Use the Budget Planner Calculator

Follow these steps to build your 50/30/20 budget.

  1. 1

    Enter your income

Enter your annual salary or hourly rate. If hourly, include your average hours per week.

  2. 2

    Choose gross or net

Select whether to budget from gross (pre-tax) or net (take-home) income. Net is recommended for most budgeting purposes.

  3. 3

    Select your pay frequency

Choose how often you are paid to see per-paycheck budget amounts.

  4. 4

    Enter giving amount (optional)

If you tithe or have regular charitable giving, enter that amount. It will be deducted first before the 50/30/20 split.

  5. 5

    Adjust the percentages

The default is 50/30/20, but you can customize each bucket to match your actual spending priorities.

  6. 6

    Review your budget

See your per-period and annual allocations for needs, wants, and savings in the breakdown table.
