What is a Calories Burned Calculator?
The calories burned calculator estimates the energy you expend during exercise based on your body weight, the type of activity, and the duration. It uses MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) values — standardized measures of exercise intensity relative to rest.
A MET value of 1 represents energy expenditure at rest. Walking at a moderate pace has a MET of about 3.5, meaning it burns 3.5 times more calories than sitting still. Running at 6 mph has a MET of about 10. The formula is: Calories = MET × weight (kg) × duration (hours).
These estimates are averages and may vary by 15–20% from your actual calorie burn, depending on your fitness level, body composition, and exercise intensity. For more precise tracking, a heart rate monitor or fitness tracker provides more personalized data.
